Ontario faces a significant capacity gap in digital literacy among its senior citizens, with 44% of Ontario's seniors (65+) reporting being unable to use digital technologies effectively (Statistics Canada, 2020). This digital divide affects their ability to access essential services, stay connected with family and friends, and navigate the digital economy. The barrier is particularly pronounced in rural areas where internet access is limited and digital literacy resources are scarce. Seniors in these areas are more likely to experience social isolation and have reduced access to healthcare services. To address this issue, funding is available for charitable, educational, and service-focused initiatives that demonstrate clear public benefit and focus on digital literacy for senior citizens. Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of Ontario's unique demographic and geographic landscape, including its aging population and rural-urban divide. Ontario's Digital Main Street program, for example, has shown success in improving digital literacy among small businesses and non-profit organizations. A similar approach could be effective in addressing the digital divide among seniors. Who Should Apply in Ontario: Organizations with a proven track record of working with senior citizens, particularly in rural areas, will be well-positioned to apply.
